The Bose Legacy

LAUNCH OF WEBSITE ON BOSE BROTHERS

The lives and work of the legendary Bose Brothers, Sarat Chandra Bose and Subhas Chandra Bose, will feature in a new website launched at the ICCR Rabindranath Tagore Centre in Kolkata, on Friday 12 December 2014.

The inputs for the website, www.TheBoseLegacy.com, are drawn from the Private Collection of Sarat's second son Amiya Nath Bose, and include both published and unpublished materials. Amiya Nath, an eminent barrister and statesman in his own right, spent a life-time securing audio and written matter about his famous father and uncle, and speaking to and about their legacy. Much of this information he placed long ago in Netaji Bhawan in Kolkata, where it is not as readily available as he and others would have wished.

Fortunately a treasure trove of such materials was retained by him for his own writings and lectures, and inherited by his widow Mrs Jyotsna Bose. Mrs Bose has very kindly bequeathed this collection to the new website, which will be readily available to all those with an interest in the Bose Brothers, both in India and abroad.

The launch was presided over by the Hon'ble Justice Asok Kumar Ganguly (rtd), former Chairman of the West Bengal Human Rights Commission, and the website inaugurated by Mr Naranarayan Gooptu, legal luminary and former Advocate-General of West Bengal.

Editor-in-Chief Outlook Group Mr Krishna Prasad from New Delhi addressed aspects of the news media close to the hearts of the Bose Brothers, while senior journalist Mr Santanu Sanyal from Kolkata recalled their lifelong involvement with the press and their steadfast adherence to the fundamental principle of freedom of the press.

Ms Madhuri Bose spoke about the newly launched website and showed some fascinating pages from the website including letters from Subhas to father Janakinath and to brother Sarat and 'Stray Thoughts' of Sarat while in detention in faraway Coonoor in south India from 1941 to 1945.

The website is an initiative of Team Bose Legacy, a dedicated group of volunteers - Madhuri Bose (Co-ordinator), Surya Bose (Chief of Technical Team), Rahul Modak, Abhijit Ray, Chandra Bose, Chandrachur Ghose, Moricheemala Ghosh and Rajesh Mehta.
